Fall in Love with Sales
"Make the decision to fall in love with sales". This is something a mentor continually taught me. A key ingredient to a successful business is mastering the art of sales, and not just mastering it but really loving the process because the more you enjoy what you do, the better you become at it. When you really believe in your product or service, the sales process is really helping others and making a difference. See below for some key tips to perfect your sales process.
1. Understand Your Product or Service
How well do you really understand your product or service? Chances are you have used it quite a bit, are really passionate about it, or maybe even developed it yourself. Whether you've been involved in it for years or are really just starting out and learning yourself, make sure to take the time to understand your product or service to the point you will be able to thoroughly explain and convey key points to your prospective client.
If you aren't already excited about your product or service, get excited! Your attitude and energy toward your product is contagious. Your customer will be able to pick up on your energy, so the more excited you are about it, the more intrigued they just might become!
2. Build Rapport
When selling your product or service either in person, over the phone, or a Zoom meeting, one of the first and most important steps that should not be skipped is building rapport. Spend a few minutes getting to know the client, take the opportunity to build a new connection. Finding some common interest will help to make you both more comfortable throughout the sale and help to build trust.
3. Communicate Clearly and Listen
Its no surprise to hear that you will need to make sure you are speaking clearly, but making sure the client knows that they have your full attention is equally important. Take the time to hear and understand client needs, questions, and concerns. Listen. Really listen, and give them time to think through what you are selling and ask questions. When a prospective client feels heard and understood they will be appreciative and more apt to continue through your process.
4. Handling Objections
Understand that objections are common and must be expected. Develop a plan for addressing common objections so you are prepared and can overcome gracefully. Realize that some objections may be able to become opportunities.
5. Close the Sale with the right timing and communication
As you connect with your prospective client, understand their signals to know when they are ready to take the next step and make sure that desired step and action is clear. Use assumptive language: instead of asking, "Would you like to proceed?", ask "When would you like to get started?" This subtly encourages the prospect to visualize themselves moving forward with the purchase.
Offer incentives if applicable, reinforce the value and key benefits that your product or service will provide. Always stay positive and confident throughout the conversation, despite any questions or objections. Clients will pick up on your energy and remain confident in you if you exude this. If a question is asked that you don't know, "I will find out and get back to you" to make sure they continue to have confidence and trust in you.
Know when silence is key. Stop talking. Once you've presented your offer and addressed any concerns, resist the urge to continue talking. Silence can be a powerful tool that allows the prospective client time to process information and make a decision.
I truly hope these tips help you in your sales journey, and help to make the sales process even more enjoyable. Fall in love with sales. Your positive attitude and enthusiasm will take you far!
